Painting Flowers with Watercolour and Gouache

Explore the versatility of using both watercolour and gouache paints together in one painting and learn how these two paints work together well for creating depth, tone and detail to floral paintings.

This is a live online workshop via Zoom with pre-recorded video demonstrations showing the techniques for creating floral pieces using watercolour with gouache. Learners will have the opportunity to paint a single flower to explore detail and intensity of colour. During the workshop there will be the opportunity to watch video demonstrations with live voice over from the tutor. The video demonstrations will show you starting points such as adding a simple wash of colour onto a line drawing of a flower. You will then view the process of building up colour and detail using both paints and have a go at creating your own piece. Throughout the workshop, there will be instruction and handy tips to help you with your painting process, as well as the opportunity to ask questions.

This workshop is ideal for those wishing to hone in on their painting skills. As the emphasis is not on botanical realism, the workshop can help anyone at any stage of their artistic journey, but can also offer guidance in realistic painting. This workshop is a chance to slow down and become engrossed in creative occupation.

For this workshop you will need smooth (hot press) watercolour paper 300 gsm or more; watercolour paints, soft watercolour brushes and gouache paints; together with general watercolour painting tools such as water pots, water, pipettes, kitchen towel etc. You will be emailed suggested single flower photographic reference to choose from before the workshop.
